By the Flori team · Published · Updated

Yes. ClickUp can work as a CRM for a freelancer or small team. You start from a free CRM template, track deals as tasks moving through statuses, add custom fields for value and contact details, and use board, table and dashboard views. It suits teams already living in ClickUp. Watch the automation and AI limits on lower plans, and the setup time.

As of October 2026. ClickUp details come from the ClickUp pages linked below and can change. Written by the Flori team, which makes a CRM with project management; we have tried to be fair to ClickUp.

How does ClickUp work as a CRM?

ClickUp is a work management tool, and a CRM in ClickUp is built from its usual parts: lists of tasks, statuses, custom fields and views. Each deal, lead or contact is a task. Its status is the pipeline stage. Custom fields hold the deal value, email and company.

ClickUp also markets a CRM use case directly. Its CRM page shows deals tracked by stage in table, board and dashboard views, forms that capture leads and create records, and automations such as a closed-won deal creating a project. Its pitch: "Other CRMs track the deal. This tracks the deal and the work." That is the real strength: sales and delivery live in the same workspace.

Which ClickUp CRM template should you start with?

ClickUp has several free CRM templates. The two most useful for small teams:

TemplateWhat is insideGood for
CRM Template4 views (List, My Assignments, Sales Process, Welcome), 8 custom fields such as CRM Item Type, Contact Name, Email, Industry and Job Title, 22 statuses, 3 automationsA small team that wants a full starting structure
Simple CRM TemplateList and Table views, custom fields for email, company, stage and lost reasons, statuses such as Lead, Opportunity, Closed, Lost and DisqualifiedA freelancer who wants one list of clients and deals

Both are listed as free, though you need a ClickUp account to add them.

How to set up a CRM in ClickUp, step by step

  1. Add a template to a new Space or Folder, or create a List called Pipeline.
  2. Define statuses as stages. Keep them short: Lead, Qualified, Proposal sent, Won, Lost. The full CRM template ships with 22 statuses; trim the ones you will not use.
  3. Add custom fields for deal value, contact email, company, source and expected close date.
  4. Create views. A board grouped by status is your pipeline. A table view works for bulk edits. A dashboard shows total value by stage.
  5. Add a form for inquiries so new leads arrive as tasks.
  6. Add automations, for example a follow-up task when the status changes to Proposal sent.
  7. Link won deals to delivery. Create the client project from a template when a deal moves to Won.

What are the limits of ClickUp as a CRM?

ClickUp's pricing page puts usage limits on several things a CRM depends on:

Beyond limits, there is the setup cost. Someone has to design the statuses, fields and automations and keep them tidy. A deal is still a task underneath, so contact history, company records with several people, and email threads take extra structure that a dedicated CRM gives you by default.

How much does a ClickUp CRM cost?

On ClickUp's current pricing page: Free Forever is $0; Core is $9 per user per month billed yearly ($12 regular price); Business is $17 billed yearly ($25 regular price); Max is $100; Enterprise is custom. Some older workspaces may still be on the Unlimited plan, which the page mentions only in its FAQ, so confirm which plan your workspace is on.

For a three-person agency on Core, that is $27 a month billed yearly for tasks, docs and a home-built CRM together.

When is a dedicated CRM the better choice?

ClickUp is a good CRM when deals are few, the team already works in ClickUp, and someone enjoys configuring it. Move to a dedicated CRM when:
