A ClickUp alternative for agencies that already run on ChatGPT or Claude

By the Flori team · Published · Updated

Short answer: stay on ClickUp if you want one app that does everything and your team will live inside it. Look at Flori if your agency's real work happens in ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor, and you want those assistants, not a second built-in AI, to plan, update and hand off client work.

When is ClickUp a better choice than Flori?

ClickUp suits teams that want extensive features and a workspace they can configure in detail.

Credit where it is due. ClickUp has the widest feature surface in the category: docs, whiteboards, goals, time tracking, dashboards and a deep automation builder. It has a free plan and one of the lowest paid entry prices. Its official assistant connector is available on every plan and works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code. If your team wants a single app to configure exactly the way it works, ClickUp is hard to beat.

Where does ClickUp create friction for agencies?

ClickUp charges for its own AI on top of the ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor plans an agency already pays for, does not let you bring your own model, rations outside assistants, and takes ongoing work to configure.

1. You pay for AI twice. ClickUp's pricing page lists Brain as a paid add-on with a set number of AI credits per user each month, and its help center describes a grace period when you go over. Your team almost certainly already pays for ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor. A second, metered AI inside the PM tool adds cost without adding the context that lives in your real assistant chats.

2. You can't bring your own model. "Bring your own LLM" is an open feature request on ClickUp's feedback board, not a shipped option. Agencies that pick models per job (one for writing, another for code) have to work around Brain rather than through it.

3. Your assistants get rationed. ClickUp's assistant connector access is real and useful, but it carries daily call caps that scale with plan: 100 on Free, 1,000 on Business per the pricing page. An agency where assistants do much of the updating can hit that sooner than expected.

4. Setup becomes a job. ClickUp's flexibility is also its cost. Building a CRM out of Spaces and custom fields (ClickUp's own guide) works, but someone has to design and maintain it. In a five-person agency, that someone is usually the founder.

How does Flori handle client work compared with ClickUp?

Flori gives an agency's existing AI assistants a shared record for client work.

Flori is built around one assumption: the AI your team already chose and knows how to use is the one that should do the work, so the tool's job is to give that AI a shared, durable place to work.

Who should keep using ClickUp?

ClickUp remains the better fit for teams that rarely use outside AI assistants, need whiteboards or custom dashboards, and have someone who will maintain a detailed setup.

Who should try Flori as a ClickUp alternative?

Flori suits small agencies whose work is drafted or built in ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or Codex, and founders who want those assistants to do the updating while a person approves what ships.

A fair one-week trial

  1. Pick one live client project. Create it in Flori and paste the brief.
  2. Connect the assistant your strategist uses (for example Claude) and the one your builder uses (for example Cursor). Give both update access to that project only.
  3. Have the first assistant plan the deliverables and save them as tasks. Have the second read the plan and pick up a task, without anyone pasting anything.
  4. At the end of the week, ask either assistant what is left and what is blocked. Compare the answer with what you would get from ClickUp for the same project.

If keeping two systems running creates conflicting status, stop the trial and decide which one owns the work.

FAQ

Does Flori replace ClickUp's docs and dashboards? Partly. Flori has documents and spreadsheets linked to projects and tasks, goals, and dashboards built from a fixed set of widgets. It has no whiteboards, so if those are central to how you work, ClickUp is stronger.

Can I keep using ClickUp's assistant connector instead? Yes, and for many teams that is a reasonable setup. The difference is design intent: ClickUp is a full workspace that also accepts assistants; Flori is built so assistants are first-class workers, with reservations, a review queue and a save history.

Does Flori charge for AI? No. Assistants connect with your own ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Cursor or Codex account, and in-app AI uses your own Anthropic or xAI key. Flori sells no AI credits.
